Leaf Drop

Sudden or excessive leaf drop can be alarming. It is often a stress response to environmental changes.

Possiveis Causas

Environmental Shock

Why: Moving a plant to a new location with different light, temperature, or humidity can trigger leaf drop.

Signs to check: Leaf drop began shortly after moving or purchasing the plant, leaves fall while still green.

Overwatering

Why: Excess moisture stresses roots, causing the plant to shed leaves it can no longer support.

Signs to check: Soil is consistently wet, leaves yellow before dropping, lower leaves affected first.

Temperature Drafts

Why: Cold drafts from windows, doors, or air conditioning can cause rapid leaf drop.

Signs to check: Plant is near a door or drafty window, leaf drop is sudden and widespread.

Low Light Adjustment

Why: A plant moved from bright to dim conditions may shed leaves it cannot sustain with less light.

Signs to check: Interior leaves drop, plant was recently moved to a darker spot.

O Que Verificar

  • 1
Note when the leaf drop started and any recent changes
  • 2
    Check soil moisture and drainage
  • 3
Assess the plant's proximity to drafts or vents
  • 4
Evaluate whether light levels changed recently

O Que Voce Pode Fazer

  • Stabilize the plant's environment — avoid further moves
  • Adjust watering to match current conditions
  • Move away from cold or hot drafts
  • Give the plant 2-4 weeks to acclimate before making more changes
  • Remove fallen leaves from the soil surface to prevent mold

Quando Buscar Ajuda

  • All leaves dropping within a few days
  • Stems are becoming soft or discolored
  • No new growth appears after several weeks of stable conditions

Ponto Chave

Leaf drop is usually a temporary stress response. Stabilize the environment and give the plant time to adjust.
